Both my Bluetooth and my wired earbuds are lightweight, comfortable options that have a snug fit. I use them to optimize sound quality to enjoy my favorite tunes or engage in a phone conversation. Provided I wear them correctly, I hardly even notice them because they’re as light as a feather. If you want to expand your knowledge on Bluetooth, go over to What Is Bluetooth And How Does It Work?
Many modern earbuds use Bluetooth signals to send and receive data from an audio source like a phone. With these types of earbuds, either one or both earpieces have a receiver, or there’s a receiver in the cord that connects both sides, and they work with both iOS and Android devices. So if I’m wearing Bluetooth earbuds, I can play music or chat on the phone wirelessly using radiofrequency waves.
However, I prefer earbuds that use a cable to connect to the audio source instead of a Bluetooth signal. With wired earbuds, I can simply plug the earbuds into my phone or another device using a 3.5mm plug, USB, or other means of direct connection.
Why would I want to use wired earbuds instead of wireless? Let me explain.
Dangers of Wireless Headsets
The radiofrequency waves that my wireless headset produces are a form of EMF radiation, and RF-EMF radiation is associated with a number of health conditions. Extended periods of exposure have been linked to the development of heart and brain tumors in rats. Although we haven’t replicated those tests in humans, it’s very possible that a link exists there as well.
I have also read numerous studies that report that RF-EMF radiation is linked to male infertility, miscarriages in pregnant women, neurological problems, and the development of Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity.
I prefer wired headsets because they use a cable for communication, so they produce significantly less RF-EMF radiation. Although some radiation may still be transmitted from the source, I have come across a number of devices that claim to reduce this exposure.
One of these devices is SYB’s Headset Anti-Radiation Device. To use it, I simply plug my wired earbuds into one end of the device and then plug the device directly into my audio source. The manufacturer claims that H.A.R.D absorbs 99% of the radiation present without affecting the sound quality.
While anti-radiation devices are good protection, they may not always be comfortable or convenient to use. If that’s the case for you, wired earbuds may be a better option. In this guide, I’ll share some of my favorite wired earbuds that are great alternatives to wireless models. These wired headsets produce significantly less EMF radiation without sacrificing sound quality or comfort.
What to Look for in Wired Earbuds
Before diving into my top picks, it’s essential to understand what to look for in wired earbuds. When shopping for wired earbuds, here are some key factors to consider:
I can attest to the importance of sound quality when it comes to wired earbuds. A good set of wired earbuds should provide clear and accurate sound reproduction across a wide range of frequencies. This is particularly important for those who enjoy listening to music or podcasts on the go.
Comfort and fit are also key considerations when it comes to selecting the best wired earbuds. It’s important to find a pair that fits well and feels comfortable in the ears, even after extended periods of use. This can help to prevent discomfort and fatigue, which can be especially important for those who use earbuds for work or other activities that require long periods of listening.
Durability is another crucial factor to consider. High-quality wired earbuds should be built to last, with durable materials and a sturdy construction that can withstand the wear and tear of daily use. This is particularly important for those who are constantly on the move, as their earbuds may be exposed to a range of different environments and conditions.
Additional features, such as noise-cancellation and microphones, can also be important considerations when selecting the best wired earbuds. Noise-cancellation can help to block out unwanted background noise, while microphones can enable hands-free calling and voice commands. These features can be especially useful for those who need to stay connected while on the move.
Best Wired Earbuds
Sephia Wired Earbuds
I purchased the Sephia Wired Earbuds because they’re designed to reduce ambient noise. The noise isolation technology is a big selling point for me because it allows me to focus more on my music or podcast and less on everything else.
The earbuds are made from a soft silicone mold that is ultra comfortable and the included earbud tips fit perfectly in my ears. I also like that they’re made with sweat proof material, which is great for when I’m at the gym or on a bike ride. The 3.8 foot long cord also gives me plenty of room, so I don’t have to keep my audio source close to me at all times.
Avantree E171 Sports Earbuds
I recently came across the Avantree E171 Sports Earbuds, and I have to say they’re quite impressive. These sports earbuds have an over-ear hook that ensures each earpiece remains secure during workouts, making them ideal for sports and exercise. Additionally, they come with a built-in microphone, which means I can easily use them for phone calls as well.
I find the sound quality on these fairly balanced, albeit a bit high on the mids and highs, as the earbud-style, in general, doesn’t lend itself to very deep bass tones. That being said, I love the comfort and convenience of these earbuds, as well as their affordable price.
Sony MDR-XB50AP/L
I always expect quality products from Sony (Sony MDR-XB50AP/L), and these earbuds didn’t disappoint. From the minute I put them on, they fit snugly in my ears, which helped to cancel out ambient noises and kept them in place while I was on the go. They have 12mm dome type drivers that provide pounding bass, and the neodymium magnets help create a balanced sound across the other tones as well.
I like that the integrated microphone makes phone calls a breeze, and the playback controls allow me to easily skip songs and adjust the volume. Plus, I can easily adjust the tangle-free y-cord with the attached slider, and when I’m done using the earbuds, I can slip them into the convenient carrying pouch.
Bose QuietComfort 20
When I’m looking to splurge on high-quality earbuds, I know I can always count on Bose. The Bose QuietComfort 20 earbud set delivers exceptional sound quality, which is key for any headset. What’s more, these earbuds come in both iPhone and Android compatible versions. I appreciate that the earbuds come with three different earpad sizes so I can use the ones that are the perfect fit for my ears.
The lithium-ion battery is built-in and rechargeable via the USB cord included in the package. For added convenience and comfort during use, these earbuds also come with a clothing clip. And when I’m on the go, I can store my Bose QuietComfort 20 earbuds safely in the durable carrying case that’s included with the earbuds.

The earbuds come with a tangle-free flat cable that is designed to be durable and resist tangling. The cable also features an in-line microphone and remote control, which means I can take calls and control my music without having to take out my phone.
I really appreciate that the earbuds come with different sizes of ear tips, so I can choose the ones that fit my ears best. They also feature a powerful 10mm driver, which delivers clear and dynamic sound with deep bass and crisp highs.
What’s more, these earbuds are compatible with a wide range of devices, including my smartphone, tablet, and MP3 player. I love that they come in a variety of colors to suit my style, and that they’re affordable without sacrificing quality.
SAMSUNG AKG Wired Earbuds
I love the SAMSUNG AKG Wired Earbuds from Amazon! They’re lightweight, have a tangle-free cord, and feature an AKG-tuned 8mm driver for clear, rich sound with deep bass and crisp highs. They also come with three sizes of ear tips for a comfortable and secure fit, and an in-line remote and microphone for easy call and music control. Parting Words
As someone who is concerned about EMF radiation, I prefer using wired earbuds over other options. I believe that wired earbuds are a much better option for me because they provide both better sound quality and reduce the amount of EMF radiation exposure.
If you’re looking for a great pair of wired earbuds that won’t break the bank and offer superior sound quality, I highly suggest the Sephia Wired Earbuds. They’re great for listening to music, podcasts or movies on your device. The only thing is they don’t have a microphone, so if you’re planning on using your headphones for calls as well, you may want to consider one of the other options on the list.
